Lake Malawi is the jewel in Malawi’s crown. Created by the natural faulting
of the rift valley, the freshwater lake stretches 365 miles from north to south.
This vast body of freshwater fringed by beaches of golden sand is not only
a scenic wonderland but it provides water sport opportunities for those
looking for something beyond sun, sand and swimming. Kayaking, sailing, snorkelling, scuba diving and water skiing are just some of the lake
activities available to visitors.
Journeys on the lake range from the motor vessel to sailing dinghy. Monkey
Bay is a functional port but is surrounded by shoreline with beautiful
golden sandy beaches and good quality lodges. Across the lake, into
Mozambique waters, is Likoma Island. Not only does it have some
beautiful beaches, and accommodation, but also a missionary-built
cathedral the size of Winchester’s.
