Libya's Roman ruins are among the best in the world, and this journey offers the chance to explore two UNESCO World Heritage Sites over a long weekend. This short break visits the superbly preserved Roman cities of Leptis Magna and Sabratha, made more spectacular by the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea, and the capital's old medina and magnificent Archaeological Museum.
DAY 1 Fly from London to Tripoli with bmi. Transfer to the Four Points by Sheraton, Tripoli for 4 nights.
DAY 2 Morning transfer to Janzur to visit the small museum and tombs. Continue to the Roman city of Sabratha, which prospered in the 2nd and 3rd centuries as one of the three great cities of Roman Tripolitania, along with Leptis and Oea (ancient Tripoli). Today it is best known for its wonderfully preserved theatre. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
DAY 3 Morning visit to the Tripoli Archeological Museum followed by a tour of Tripoli, including the Arch of Marcus Aurelius and the Medina. Remainder of the day at leisure.
